Thank you so much, Lindsey!! You’ve been such an amazing humor buddy!! And you’re going to get a BIG shout-out once the piece is actually published because you were one of my readers!!! I’m so grateful to you.❤️❤️❤️

Yay, I truly can't wait!

Ooh, congratulations on the humor piece being published! That’s wonderful news.

And I sympathize with you caring for your mom; I cared for my dad with dementia and am now caring for my uncle with dementia. Luckily not full time.

Thank you so much, Sierra! I really appreciate the cheer! And I'm smiling because I think I was just over in your post cheering your great news at the same time you were here cheering mine. ❤️

And I'm sorry to hear about your dad and your uncle. It's really a lot to undertake care for relatives with dementia. I don't live near my mom, so she has a team of caregivers and my sisters and I rotate in for visits--that's a lot in itself. I can't imagine what it would be like to help on the ground all the time. It sounds like you really devoted yourself to them. They are--and were-- so lucky to have you. ❤️

Congratulations on the humor piece and for hopefully not breaking your leg!

Diane Roth's avatar

Thank you so much, Michelle! And yes, that I didn't end up in the ER after the strength training might be even more miraculous than the humor piece! xox

Want to say 'Break a leg!' but you already said no. 🤫 So, I will go with Congrats on your humor piece. Be sure to let us know as soon as it is out. 💕

And one day, if you feel like it, maybe we can hear more about your reunion? You might have some interesting characters and fun stories! (And what are 'Fancy Sneakers' anyway? I thought Brooks are fancy, and I love them.)

Most of all, you are a wonderful daughter, taking care of your mom the way you do. (hmmm... another topic to talk about? 🤭)

Diane Roth's avatar

Thanks a million my friend!! So grateful for your support!!!

And yes, I should probably mine some of the events of the last week for my newsletter. There’s some good material in there—I think you’re right! And maybe I can start writing a little earlier for once - lol

Now about the sneakers…I think “fancy” sneakers are ones that don’t serve a particular function for a sport. For me, Brooks are my go-to walking shoe and for some people, they’re a running shoe. But shoes like Brooks are pretty essential for exercise. So what about the sneakers that just…look good? Match an outfit? I think those are the fancy ones for me. What do you think??

One of my coworkers told me one day that he loves this shoe from Feraxxx, a luxury brand I'd heard of since my college days, but had never met anyone who actually wore them. Anyhow, he said I should get a pair because they are worth it. So I seriously considered it — until he said he paid $800 for them about ten years ago.

For me, Brooks are just fine. At least I know where my priority lies. And I will stick to them. 😉)

I am SO with you! I’m happy to walk around in my Brooks! And $800 for a pair of sneakers????!!!!! Now those are fancy!!! 😮😮😮 And unaffordable!!!

Congrats on your piece being published! That is always so exciting!

Diane Roth's avatar

Thank you so much, Melissa!!! I’m so used to rejection with my novels that I almost don’t know what to do with a “yes!” Definitely exciting! I appreciate your supportive cheer! ❤️

Diane, first I'm really honored you included my piece in yours. Thanks so much--one edit though, I would never call you or anyone a sloth, but I hope I helped you and others who may find it get "destined for exercise" as you put it so well.

Sorry to hear about the extra challenges with your visit to see your Mom. That is not the kind of surprise you want but fortunately it sounds like she'll be okay. I laughed at your escapades in supporting her.

I'm excited to har about your upcoming humor piece that will be published. Ironically, I recently started to figure out Medium myself and am testing out publishing my older pieces there to see if I gain any more "discoverability" and maybe even a little more jingle in the bank for some of my work, as they put it. Substack will always be my priority though.

Lastly, I look forward to hearing you achieve your exercise destiny and how your resistance training goes (or if it doesn't, that's OK too, you can regroup and try again, but I believe in you).

It's definitely not easy for any of us to maintain physical activity, or any other self-care items when our plates feel full or overflowing. Just try as you can to save some space for you :)

When a coaching client shares their hectic week, I always listen but will then ask them "where are you on your priority list?" It sounds like your reunion was one enjoyable item complete with Target backpack LOL.

You've got yourself on the list now and that's a great place to start.

Thank you so much, Melanie -- for all the support and inspiration!! And oh yes, you would never call me a sloth!!! That was my description (and I hate to say it, but somewhat apt when it comes to strength training!). In any case, I did 22 minutes in the gym this evening -- making good on my promise! Thanks for all the inspiration! I even listened to music!

Woo-hoo! that’s awesome Diane! Now just rinse and repeat :)

Thanks for the update. Your success makes me so happy for you!

Congratulations on the humour piece. Good news indeed!

Well done on the training. All good, my friend.

Diane Roth's avatar

Thanks a million, Leonora! And yes, no excuses on the resistance training, at least for today! LOL!! ❤️❤️

Congrats on the humor piece!!!

Diane Roth's avatar

Thanks so much, Henny! I guess I’m picking up some tricks from folks like you here on Substack!
